Wednesday we had a visit by my cousin’s family – aged from 11 to 94 – all of whom wanted to visit the dig.

Five minutes digging by the 3 children – under the strict supervision of their Dad and myself – quickly became two hours as soon as they started to find:
-
Doorstep to outside toilet a very substantial stone door step;
-
Brick edged stone floor of outside toilet. as well as a most magnificent decorative brick edged stone flagged floor, which they also did a pretty good job at cleaning up.

Considering it was just the outside toilet, for the use of farm labourers and their families, it was amazingly posh – perhaps even more so than the terracotta tiled floor of the 19th century scullery or wash-house!
