Chalk: 1. A South Downs Epic Excursion

Brighton Railway Station, Thameslink (International) train

Brighton Station marks the beginning of another epic adventure for me to learn more about the origins of the beautiful chalk South Downs. They are the birthplace of both of my parents, as well as of my sister and myself. We are all children of chalk and flint.

Behind the concrete covered railway cutting is Brighton’s chalk bedrock!

Meanwhile, I am loaded with yet another ridiculously heavy rucksack, a sore back and lots of anxiety. But I am also full of high hopes and a light heart. I am off on one of my most epic adventures in many a decade!

I didn’t get much sleep last night, and had to wake early. So you will have to wait to discover more whilst I have my second breakfast and a snooze! Hopefully I’ll be back here later this afternoon.
